4/18/23 — PPOA has received notification that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was served with a California Public Records Act Request (PRA) from a media outlet. The media requested photos and names of all sworn peace officers (with the exception of those in undercover assignments). PPOA immediately reached out to the Department to ensure that its members’ constitutional rights to privacy were fully protected under the law. We have been in communication with the Department, and our legal counsel, to prevent a LAPD-type of release of legally-protected pictures and information of peace officers. To that end, we are meeting with the Department, in person, this week and will be exercising all options to provide the necessary legal protections to our members.
We will keep you updated on the status of the PRA requests and the Department’s plans on the release of any information.
