Jose Salgado
PPOA Board Member
Lieutenant, LASD

Dear PPOA members, the County has forgotten about COVID. However, they continue the attack on our profession by calling us gang members and passed a motion of a multitude of recommendations to the Sheriff for implementation. The Department has a policy on gangs — there is a penal code addressing police gangs, along with the SB 2 reporting system to address police officer misconduct. What are the reasons for these recommendations? How are these recommendations going to impact our day-to-day operations? Are these recommendations lawful? The focus should be on retention and recruitment. What are they doing about retention and recruitment? These are some of the questions to ponder. This is the reason I have encouraged everyone to get involved to make our voice stronger. How do you get involved? Here are some suggestions:

  • Express your concerns via a PPOA Board member
  • Contact the PPOA office and send us an email
  • Make sure you are receiving the weekly updates via your personal email on file. Have you changed your phone number or email? It’s simple to call and update your information.
  • Become a union delegate
  • Run for the Board seats that were recently vacated

The more you educate yourself on the issues impacting our membership, the better you can assist us in fighting for what is right for the betterment of our union members. We need to stop this attack on our profession by the county commissions, inspector generals, constitutional policing teams and other anti-police organizations. Please contact us with any issues you may believe we should look into. This is not a time to remain silent. It’s time to act and let these groups know we are united and strong.

Stay safe and healthy.
