My name is Juan Carlos Calderon. I am a Sergeant for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department who is assigned to the Sherman Block Building with the Office of Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) compliance.
I have had the distinct opportunity to work with many of you in many different capacities and assignments. I am very excited, humbled and eager to serve all PPOA Bargaining Unit 612 members. It is an honor to represent not just Unit 612 members, but every PPOA member who expects and demands the best from this Association. I come to you all ready to go to work and help make this Association the absolute best it can be for current members and future PPOA members to come.
In these trying times in our profession, all of us need to collectively work together and solidify our bonds, professionalism, dedication and care for one another and our families. The time of us being divisive and off-putting toward one another in this profession needs to end. Our strengths lie in our connections with each other. It does not lie with finger pointing. It does not lie with avoiding responsibility. I will work tirelessly to make sure PPOA helps in that strengthening.
PPOA cannot do it alone. We need you — each Unit 612 and PPOA member — to actively participate. I implore you all to ask the questions you have and to bring your concerns or issues to the Board, who is here to serve you. Allow myself and my fellow Board members to have the opportunity to help get to the bottom of your concerns and/or issues.
I will always be open, honest and, most importantly, direct with all of you. The time to “beat around the bush” is over. You all demand an Association that is here for its members. I intend to deliver that to you all — no questions asked. I will always be a phone call or an email away.
I will make sure to avert the rumors and innuendos, and to get the right, factual answers to the issues and concerns of Unit 612 members. I will work to make sure you are given the facts needed to make the best decisions for your professional and personal lives. It’s time to go to work.
As a resident of Los Angeles County, I am thankful for your dedication and the services you provide to myself, my family and all County residents.
Blessings to you and your families. Please be safe. Stay safe and look out for one another.
