When I first joined the PPOA Board, I remember walking into the boardroom, scanning the seats around that large conference table, and settling into one without much thought. By pure happenstance — or maybe something greater — I found myself seated next to a man whose name carried weight, whose reputation preceded him, and whose heart beat for this Association: Art Reddy.
From that first meeting forward, I had the honor of working with Art on our PPOA Board. And while our time together was far too short, it did not take long for me to understand the depth of who he was.
Art was a true pillar of the PPOA — a walking encyclopedia of union history, legislative advocacy and departmental tradition. But beyond his knowledge, it was his passion that left the deepest impression. His love for this Association was evident in every word he spoke, in every question he asked and in every action he took on behalf of our members.
Art did not just serve this organization; he lived it. From his first election to the PPOA Board in 1979, through his groundbreaking six-year tenure as president, and across four decades of unwavering service, Art never once slowed in his devotion. Even in retirement, he continued to advocate, mentor and guide — driving from Palm Desert to San Dimas month after month, year after year, simply because he believed in the mission, and more importantly, he believed in the people.

To say Art Reddy was one of a kind feels like an understatement. His service to law enforcement, to PPOA and to his fellow public servants stretched across 63 remarkable years. Generations of members have benefited from his leadership, but it was his character — his wit, warmth, humility and strength — that made him unforgettable.
The sudden loss of Art and his beloved wife, Judy, has left our PPOA family heartbroken. We mourn not just the passing of a leader, but the loss of a dear friend, a mentor and a steady hand who always sought what was best for this Association. Art’s presence in our boardroom and in our hearts will be sorely missed.
Art Reddy gave more than his time — he gave his soul to this organization. And though he’s no longer seated beside us, his legacy surrounds us in every decision we make, every member we support and every cause we take up.
Rest in peace, Art. You may be gone from our sight, but your spirit remains forever seated at the table with us. With deepest gratitude and heartfelt remembrance, we will miss you beyond what words can measure.
