Well … January 2024 has come and gone. Have you been able to keep your New Year’s resolution so far? Don’t worry if you have not, and if it is any comfort, you are not alone! According to the Ohio State University Fisher College of Business, researchers suggest that only 9% of Americans who make resolutions complete them. Even more astounding is that 23% of people quit their resolution by the end of the first week, and 43% quit by the end of January. Read More

Incoming: Custody Assistant Class #110 graduated on February 2. Congratulations to them on their accomplishments. As of this writing, we are waiting for approval of two additional classes. If approved, they are scheduled to begin March 4 and May 20. Questions regarding contracts are coming up as we enter the final year of our current agreement. The contract does not expire until March 2025. Read More
Hello, partners. As we enter the new year, I wish I had better news to share with everyone, but unfortunately, the drought continues for Sheriff Security Officer (SSO) academies. As of mid-January, there aren’t any SSO classes in sight for the first few months this year. These are trying times for our classification, the Sheriff’s Department and law enforcement in general throughout the nation. Read More
Recently, California changed the concealed carry law in the state to make it illegal to carry concealed weapons in many locations, even if you have a permit. PPOA has received calls and emails about this, and it appears the legal opinion is that honorably retired peace officers are still exempt from that law. It appears the intent was for those who were non-law enforcement and issued permits from local authorities, not duly sworn and trained police officers. Read More
