As we learn more about the “state” of California, or the state this state is in, it is clearer and clearer that many policies and laws passed in the past 10 years don’t work as intended. There is finally a good chance that Proposition 36 may pass. I encourage you all to read it and support it. With this issue being dedicated to retirees, this is a great time to share a story about a recent retiree who made a huge impact on me, everyone he worked with, the entire Department and the citizens he spent his life protecting. One of the many great things about working for this Department is the quality of leaders we encounter.
