I start with this inspiring quote because each calendar year in June, PPOA issues college scholarship awards to our full dues-paying members’ dependent children graduating from high school, as well as our members’ dependent children currently attending an accredited college or university. On May 20, I participated in the 2022 Memorial Torch Relay Run to honor our fallen law enforcement officers. I ran seven miles from Pico Rivera Station to Norwalk Station with more than a dozen men and women and fellow PPOA members. In recent years, we have pushed for the Sheriff’s Department to utilize its natural resources of Custody Assistants when recruiting for Deputies just as efficiently as they do for the needs of the unit when they are short Deputies. Unfortunately, this month’s article begins with solemn news. Fellow Sheriff’s Security Officer Robert Ford Sr. passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2022. The 27-year LASD veteran had been assigned to Metro Court for the last 25 years. He actually began his career with the L.A. County Marshal’s Office before coming over to the Sheriff’s Department during the merger. Read More
